2d dump

I havent died, i still do pose maniacs! all are 30 second sketches, expect for one of the rows, which are 10 second sketches.

I did a 40 min painting of a pear from photo ref. My brain has a hard time translating green tones into values, so i decided to get some practice in. I'm fairly happy w/ how it turned out since i usually really, REALLY struggle w/ greens.

Concepting

So i decided to do some silhouettes for some upcoming characters to sculpt. They're pretty archetypal for the most part :/

My personal favorites are the flying monkey and satyr centaur. What can i say, i must have a thing for flail tails. i'll probably end up finalizing and doing orthos for the flying monkey. I think it has potential to be hilarious. Picture a small monkey with massive wings flying around, bludgeoning victims with its tail. When it lands, it'll rest on top of his flail, looking cute but deadly. They can be our generation's gremlins. Do not feed after midnight!

Bouncer

I was inspired by Bob Incredible and team fortress 2. Beside him is a high poly female head. Using the bouncer's chubby head as a base mesh, i re-sculpted it in mudbox, carefully preforming a face lift and double chin reduction. workflow: model a low poly head with good edge flow in Maya > subdiv and sculpt bouncer head in mudbox > feminize! Her texture's going to change, but as of right now shes a.... dolphin trainer or possibly a jamaican bobsledder. Copyright Benxing Entertainment.

I also feel bad that i havent done a self portrait in a while so i did a 15 min speed paint. very unfinished. I think i'll probably spend a day and just do rapid 15 min speed gestural portraits.

GA WIP

WIP. I'm working on the Pawn contest for GA. I'm about 1.5 hrs in. My inspiration was a zerg hydralisk then i threw in some human anatomy. The process of sculpting was surprisingly fluid and a lot faster than pushing/pulling vertexes in Maya.

30 min painting of an onion from reference.

uhhh

My old laptop couldnt handle zbrush w/ only 1 gig of ram and a horrible graphics card... anything beyond a measly 900k and my laptop would crash. This is my first 3d sculpt on my new behemoth desktop, and i was able to get up to 7.5 million quads and still sculpt like butter. I'm paranoid that my computer will implode if i add another subdiv.

I started dragging out zspheres and began sculpting with no initial concept. I was treating this as a learning exercise rather than attempting to make any sort of polished piece. No pressure, just relaxing on a friday night, listening to grooveshark(similar to pandora), and sculpting. messed around for 1 hr.

I sculpted in Mudbox this morning at work. After testing out both briefly, I think i slightly prefer mudbox over zbrush. Mudbox is more intuitive and user friendly while zbrush is crazy advanced with butt-tons of drop down menus and sliders. But i see almost everyone on Gameartisans using zbrush, so it can't be all bad, amirite? I'll just give into peer pressure and keep learning zbrush. I will, however, stick w/ mudbox when poly painting.

I also did another self portrait. It took slightly over an hr. Again, just an exercise to cool down before bed. Trying to get better at color and value.

archer update 2

I'm about midway through texturing. I should be finished by the end of this weekend. It'll probably be the last "old school" character model/texture I make in my spare time. After this, SCULPTING!

I got tired/bored of texturing so ironically started a self portrait. 1hr to cool down before bed.
